For many years, I’ve preached a sermon entitled, “There is a Day After This”, taken from Job 42:10-16. I must give credit for this title to one of the greatest preachers the world has ever known, at least in my book…Bishop Kenneth Moales (songwriter of “The War Cry”). I heard Bishop Moales preach this sermon back in 1994, and it has had its hook in me ever since!
The Lord has periodically led me to preach this message across America…most recently last month in Miami, Florida at New Birth Baptist Cathedral. However, this time, while in prayer and preparation, I was prompted by the Spirit to concentrate on verse 10, “And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends…” [emphasis mine].
It was then that I began to sense the Lord impressing His Word in my spirit. “We are now entering a season where He is going to “turn captivity!” Whatever is holding people captive, in bondage , in chains, in oppression and depression… it will be destroyed!
Before I declare the yoke-destroying anointing that is being released in this season, I must first bring your attention to several recent news-worthy stories that confirm the Lord’s decree:
- The story of NBC News’ chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel and his production crew, who were freed unharmed after being kidnapped and held captive for 5 days in Syria back in December 2012.
- The story of Mark Cobb (Corpus Christi, TX), who escaped captivity in January of this year after being held hostage by an Al Qaeda terrorist group at a BP gas facility in Algeria.
- The story of Jessica Buchanan, the humanitarian aid worker in Somalia who was rescued from being held hostage by Somali pirates. (She has been in the national spotlight all this month due to the interview she gave on “60 Minutes” to highlight the release of her new book, Impossible Odds, in which she details her harrowing story of 93 days in captivity and her rescue by the infamous Navy Seal Team 6.
- The story of 3 women-Amanda Berry, Georgina “Gina” DeJesus and Michelle Knight-who, just 3 weeks ago, bravely escaped 8-10 years of captivity, bondage and torture in a Cleveland, OH house owned by Ariel Castro. Berry’s 6-year old daughter, fathered by Castro, was also rescued.
These amazing stories of escape and rescue from captivity in the natural only highlights what God is doing in the spirit: The Lord loves us too much to leave is where we are!!! One of the prophet Isaiah’s great Messianic prophesies declared that the Suffering Servant would come to set the captives free… a prophecy that Jesus would declare over Himself at the beginning of His public ministry…
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound” (Isaiah 61:1)
We also learn of the Lord’s concern for those in captivity in the book of Psalms…
For He looked down from he height of His sanctuary;
From heaven the Lord viewed the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To release those appointed to death (Ps 102:19-20)
Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry,
The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners (Ps 146:7)
The character of God is shown in the extent of His concern. But it is not just those who are captive for their faith, or falsely accused, or in the bondage of persecution whom He remembers with His liberating grace. We see His concern even for those who find themselves in prison because they rebelled against His Word.
Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Bound in afflictions and irons-
Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And despised the counsel of the Most High,
Therefore He brought down their heart with labor;
They fell down, and there was none to help.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their chains in pieces.
Oh that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men! (Ps 107:10-15)
This is the season of release! It’s not just a one-day thing… nor just a one-year thing…it’s a season of release!!!
I leave you with two verses from the parable of the Prodigal Son – Luke 15:27, 32. The father in this story uses 2 notable phrases regarding his returning son: “safe and sound” and “lost and found.” I prophesy that it’s time for YOU to take a stand and declare…
Over yourself: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your family: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your friendships: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your church: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your schools: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your community: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over your region: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over our law enforcement: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over our government: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over our military: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
Over the Body of Christ: “Safe and sound… lost and found!”
